Install on Android

On Android you install Smaquli from Chrome. After that it sits on your home screen like an app, and in the share menu too.

Go to app.smaquli.com in Chrome and log in.

  2. Step 2: Open the menu

Tap the three dots at the top right.

  3. Step 3: Choose Install app

Choose Install app or Add to home screen, and confirm.

  4. Step 4: Open Smaquli from your home screen

Smaquli is now among your apps. Open it from there from now on.

Install on iPhone or iPad

On iPhone and iPad you add Smaquli to your home screen from Safari.

  1. Step 1: Open Smaquli in Safari

    Go to app.smaquli.com in Safari.

  2. Step 2: Tap Share

Tap the Share button: the square with the arrow pointing up.

  3. Step 3: Choose Add to Home Screen

Scroll to Add to Home Screen and tap Add.

  4. Step 4: Log in once more

Open Smaquli from your home screen and log in there once more.

Share recipes on Android

Once Smaquli is installed, it appears in the Android share menu by itself. This is how you share a recipe from any app.

  1. Step 1: Open the recipe

Open the recipe in Chrome, or the video in Instagram, TikTok or YouTube.

  2. Step 2: Tap Share

Tap Share and choose Smaquli from the list. If it isn’t there, look under More.

  3. Step 3: Open Smaquli

Smaquli fetches the recipe. Under the plus button it’s then ready for you to review.

  4. Step 4: Review and save

Check the recipe, fix whatever isn’t right and tap Opslaan (Save). It’s in your book now.

You check it first. It goes into your book only when you tap Opslaan (save).

Share recipes on iPhone, with a Shortcut

iOS doesn’t put web apps in the share menu (yet). With a Shortcut, in Apple’s Shortcuts app, you get the same: you tap Share, choose the Shortcut, and a moment later the recipe is ready for you to review. The Shortcut uses a personal key that can only import recipes; your password isn’t in it.

Make a key

  1. Step 1: Open the settings

Open Smaquli and go to Instellingen (Settings), Delen vanaf iPhone (Sharing from iPhone).

  2. Step 2: Make a key

    Tap Sleutel maken (Make key).

  3. Step 3: Copy the key

Copy the value that starts with Bearer smq_. You only see it once. If you lose it, make a new one and revoke the old one. The same page also shows the address you’ll need in a moment: https://app.smaquli.com/api/import.

Make the Shortcut

  1. Step 4: Make a new shortcut

Open the Shortcuts app and tap +. Give the shortcut a name, for example Bewaar in Smaquli.

  2. Step 5: Put it in the share sheet

Tap the i symbol (or Details) and turn on Show in Share Sheet. For the input types, choose only URLs, Safari web pages and Text.

  3. Step 6: Add Get Contents of URL

Add the action Get Contents of URL. Enter https://app.smaquli.com/api/import as the URL and tap Show More. Choose POST as the method. Add a header with Authorization as the key and the key you copied (Bearer smq_ and the rest) as the value. For Request Body choose JSON, and add a text field with url as the key and the Shortcut Input variable as the value.

  4. Step 7: Add Get Dictionary Value

Add the action Get Dictionary Value, with message as the key, from Contents of URL.

  5. Step 8: Add Show Notification

Add the action Show Notification, with the dictionary value as the text.

Using it

  1. Step 9: Share a recipe

Open a recipe in Safari, tap Share and choose Bewaar in Smaquli. You’ll see a notification that Smaquli is importing the recipe.

  2. Step 10: Review and save

Open Smaquli. Under the plus button, the recipe is ready for you to review. After Opslaan (Save) it’s in your book.

If you share a piece of text with a link in it, from a message for example, Smaquli takes the first link from that text.

Notifications you might see

NotificationWhat to do
Deze sleutel werkt niet (meer)This key no longer worksMake a new key and put it in the Shortcut’s header.
Er zit geen link in wat je deeldeThere’s no link in what you sharedShare the page itself (the link), not just a piece of text.

Te veel pogingenToo many attemptsWait a while; there’s a limit of 30 imports per hour.

Revoking a key

Lost your phone, or got a new one? Go to Instellingen, Delen vanaf iPhone and tap the bin next to the key. Shortcuts using that key stop working straight away. If someone leaves the household, their keys stop working too.

How to use Smaquli

From your first recipe to cooking together, in seven steps. Start with the recipe you saved recently and have almost lost already. Below the steps you see the screens from the app.

  1. Step 1: Tap the plus button

Open Smaquli and tap +. You choose from Inspreken (say it), Link of tekst plakken (paste a link or text) and Handmatig (type it).

  2. Step 2: Paste a link or text

Choose Link of tekst plakken and paste the recipe link: from a recipe site, TikTok, Instagram or YouTube. If it comes from a chat, paste the text. Smaquli fetches the recipe.

  3. Step 3: Check it and save it

Smaquli gets the recipe ready and says what to check. If anything isn’t right, change it. Only after Opslaan (save) is it in your book.

  4. Step 4: Cook for your number of people

Open the recipe and set the number of people with the plus and minus. The amounts in the steps follow. Missing something? Tap the arrows and swap it. With Scherm aan laten (keep screen on) your screen stays on.

  5. Step 5: Put it on the shopping list

Tap Op boodschappenlijst (onto the shopping list). What you already have stays off it. In the shop you tick things off, even without signal.

  6. Step 6: Tap Gekookt! after dinner

Give stars and say why. That way your favourites rise to the top by themselves.

  7. Step 7: Cook together

With Premium, 4 people share one book and one list. Invite your housemate via Instellingen, Huishouden (settings, household): an invite link works once and is valid for 7 days.

  • Step 1Tap the plus: speak it, paste a link or text, or type it yourself.
  • Step 2Paste a link, and Smaquli fetches the recipe.
  • Step 3You check it first. It goes into your book only when you tap Opslaan (save).
  • Step 4From 4 to 6 people: everything scales, the curry paste a little less.
  • Step 5Sorted by aisle, and every line says which recipe it’s for.
  • Step 6Tapped Gekookt! (cooked)? Give it stars and say why.
  • Step 7Invite someone with a link, and you share one book and one list.
